Have you recently received an email from Brie telling you that your students are set up in Accelerated Reader / STAR ? If so, you're probably wondering ' now what?'.
Although we commonly refer to the collection of programs as AR, it actually consists of three parts -- Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Reader 360, and STAR . In a nutshell :
Students use the same login for all three programs -- typically it's their FirstInitialLastName ( so John Smith would be jsmith ), though some students may have a number after ( so John Smith might be jsmith, while his little brother James Smith might be jsmith1 ).
If you haven't received an email about AR yet, have patience -- we're working on getting each campus set up as soon as possible.
Although we commonly refer to the collection of programs as AR, it actually consists of three parts -- Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Reader 360, and STAR . In a nutshell :
- Accelerated Reader is a program where students read books and then take multiple choice comprehension quizzes ( usually 5-20 questions, dependent on the length of the book ). They receive a set number of points for passing quizzes; you are encouraged to track these points in some way. Many of the quizzes will read the questions aloud.
- AR360 is a program where you assign articles to students. You also choose 'assignments' to go with each article -- things like 'highlight the main idea' or ' answer short essay questions'. There is also a multiple choice quiz for each article.
- STAR is a standardized assessment program that we have begun using this year. For Reading, the standard reading assessment is appropriate for first grade and up ( or kindergarten students with some reading ability ); the Early Literacy version is for students not yet reading.
Students use the same login for all three programs -- typically it's their FirstInitialLastName ( so John Smith would be jsmith ), though some students may have a number after ( so John Smith might be jsmith, while his little brother James Smith might be jsmith1 ).
