If you attended any of the training with Brett or Brie this summer, chances are you've already heard about Google Classroom. If you need help setting your students up in Google Apps for Education ( that is, creating an individual account for each student ), check out this blog post. Please note that you need admin rights to create accounts -- email Brie for help.
Once you have accounts, you need to setup Google Classroom. This blog post will help you get started. Once you've got yourself going, here are ten things that you can do: Although we have a lot of great apps on the iPads, there are also a lot of great web-based applications that you can use. There will be posts on some of them later this week, but the biggest challenge teachers face with them is getting students to type in the web address. If you're only planning on using a webpage one time, the easiest method is to either use Google Classroom or a QR code to send the link. But if it's a link that you want the students to access over and over again ( for example, Kahoot ), then it's best to put a link on the desktop of your iPad. Here's how : 1) Open up Safari and type in the web address you need to go to. ( You must use Safari. Chrome won't work ) 2) Just to the right of the web address bar is the share button. It looks like a box with an up arrow coming out of it. Click on it. 3) From the pop up menu that appears, click on 'Add to Home Screen' . That's it!
Have you used Google Classroom yet? It's possibly one of the most helpful applications we have available to us! Google Classroom has three main uses: 1) Getting work or creations "turned in" from an iPad with ease ( and allowing you to grade said assignments, if you're so inclined ) 2) Handing out "papers" to students ( books, PDFs, links to websites or videos... ) 3) Classroom discussion board ( students can comment on assignments. Be careful with this one! ) _The video below is a great 'getting started' guide to Google Classroom. Remember that you'll need to sign in with your UCP Google Account, and that your students will need UCP Google accounts as well. If you need help getting those set up, see the previous tutorial here or ask Brie for help. Two of the Bailes 4th Graders made these tutorials on how to change your wallpaper. Neither of them mention how to find images -- you simply do a Google Search using a web browser, and then click ' Images'. Tap the image you want to select it. |
