Are your kids using DreamBox on a regular basis ( hint: they should be )? Did you know that you can now assign specific lessons to your students based on what you're currently teaching in the classroom? It's called AssignFocus, and here's how it works: If you use TeachersPayTeachers, you've probably noticed that they've recently added videos as one of the products available for purchase.
If you've been in the classroom during iPad specials, you've probably seen PicKids ( the student version of PicCollage ) being used, primarily to make posters -- the Fall Book poster is one example of it. PicKids is a great tool for making a wide variety of graphics. If you're looking for an in-depth tutorial on how to use it, here's a great link to a (free!) TPT video about it. What have iPad specials been up to? Among other things, learning how to use the PicKids app to create posters. Students made posters to share some of their favorite books, or books that they're looking forward to reading. See below for an example from one of the Pine Hills students.
P.S. If your students have created these posters, and you'd like to print them out to display, let Brie know and she'll teach you how. Great news! We have purchased additional licenses for STAR Reading, and therefore all students should be able to access it.
Remember that students should be taking the assessment on a regular basis. If your students have only taken STAR once this year, please have them take it again to monitor their progress. Good afternoon iPad team!
I will be holding a professional development on using Google Classroom and creating interactive slides. Please fill out the attached survey so we can find a date and time that works for everyone. https://goo.gl/forms/jlxJrBszORYfzGW02 If I’ve missed someone on your team ( and I’m sure I have :) ), please forward the survey to them so they can reply as well. Over these past few weeks, you may have noticed your teach team resetting and updating iPads. An unfortunate side effect is that you may need to re-login to several programs. Here's a quick reference guide to help you out :
Google Suite ( Chrome, Drive, Classroom, etc ) : Once you log in to Chrome, you should be able to just select the child's name. Their login is <firstInitial><lastName>@ucpstudent.org ( @bailesbears.org for the Bailes Campus ). So John Smith would be [email protected] . Usually the last name from the roster was used, with no spaces of symbols -- John Brown-Smith would be [email protected] . Some children may have a number after their name, if there is another child with their same login. In general, the password is all lowercase with no symbols, spaces, or numbers, and is the name of your campus. If you have trouble, check with your Tech Lead or Brie. Accelerated Reader : Click on "Connect to My Renaissance Place". The code is ucpcf-44cm STAR : STAR assessments need to be done through a web browser. bit.ly/ucpstar is a short version of the web address. Dreambox: Select "School". The school code is nvkg/ucpeocs Starfall: Click on 'activate device' in the top left hand corner. The username and password can be found on the master list. Haiku Deck: Select "Sign In", and then "Google". Use their Google login from above. What have iPad Specials been up to lately? Mostly learning about using Google Apps! We've worked on practicing our typing skills in Google Docs and many of the classes have moved on to learning to make presentations. One great tool for presentations is Google Slides -- it's basically the Google version of Powerpoint. For our first project, we each edited a single slide in a collaborative book about ourselves. Here's an example from one of the West Orange 2/3 class:
Did you see that Kahoot! has added an iPad application? The app has been pushed to all iPads ; check Self Service if the app has not downloaded for you. What is Kahoot! Kahoot is a game-based learning web app. It's a way for you to create multiple-choice quizzes that your students can complete "game show" style. You'll need a way to project the questions where the children can see if ( such as a smart board ) and each child needs a web-connected device to answer the questions ( such as an iPad ). Here's a tutorial on how to set up a Kahoot, as well as some tips and tricks : |
